Compassionate early abortion care designed around you

A medication-based abortion uses prescribed medicines to end an early pregnancy. At Potomac Family Planning, this option may be available up to 10 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period, subject to a clinician’s evaluation and your individual health history. Our team explains the process in plain language so you understand your options, your instructions, and the follow-up plan.

For detailed information about this care option, you can review our Abortion Pill services before requesting an appointment. A clinical visit helps confirm whether this approach is appropriate for you and gives you an opportunity to discuss concerns privately. We focus on safety, informed consent, and care that respects your circumstances.

What medication care may involve

medication abortion generally involves two different medicines used according to instructions from a qualified clinician. The first medicine is taken as directed, and the second causes cramping and bleeding as the pregnancy passes. Your care team will explain expected symptoms, warning signs, pain-management guidance, and the follow-up steps needed to confirm completion.

Every patient’s experience is different, which is why a professional evaluation matters. We will review your medical history, pregnancy timing, and any factors that could affect whether pills are the right method for you. If another option is safer or more appropriate, our team can explain that option clearly and respectfully.

  • Private consultation and review of your health history
  • Confirmation of pregnancy timing and clinical eligibility
  • Clear directions for each medication and expected symptoms
  • Guidance about follow-up and when to contact the clinic
  • Respectful support from a trained, compassionate care team
