Compassionate early pregnancy care for Monroe patients

The abortion pill is a medication-based option for ending an early pregnancy. At Potomac Family Planning, medical abortion may be available up to 10 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period, subject to clinical evaluation and eligibility. During your visit, a qualified clinician reviews your health history, confirms important details about the pregnancy, and discusses what to expect.

For patients seeking reliable information, our Abortion Pill service page explains this early abortion option and the care available through our practice. The process uses medication rather than a procedure to end an eligible early pregnancy. Your clinician will provide individualized instructions, answer your concerns, and make sure you understand follow-up recommendations before you leave.

A private process with clinical guidance

A medication-based abortion generally involves medication taken as directed by your clinician, with part of the process occurring at home. Cramping and bleeding are expected as the pregnancy passes, and the care team will explain common effects, warning signs, pain-management guidance, and how to reach the clinic. Having a trusted support person nearby when you use the second medication can be helpful.

Every person’s situation is different, so the safest plan begins with an evaluation rather than assumptions. Some health conditions, medications, pregnancy timing, or clinical findings may mean another option is more appropriate. Potomac Family Planning will discuss your circumstances respectfully and recommend care centered on your health and preferences.

What your appointment can include

Our goal is to replace uncertainty with practical, medically sound information. An appointment for abortion medication can include the following:

  • A confidential discussion of your medical history and pregnancy timing
  • Clinical assessment to determine whether this option is appropriate
  • Clear instructions for using prescribed medications and managing expected symptoms
  • Information about follow-up and when to contact the care team
  • Respectful answers about privacy, costs, insurance, and scheduling

You do not need to navigate these details alone. From your first call through follow-up, our staff works to make the process straightforward and discreet. If an in-clinic procedure is clinically recommended instead, we will explain why and help you understand that option as well.

Why choose Potomac Family Planning

Potomac Family Planning combines compassionate communication with experienced clinical support for people making personal reproductive healthcare decisions.

We have multiple locations serving the region: Rockville, MD; Baltimore, MD; and Hagerstown, MD. Planning for an in-person clinic visit

Because care is individualized, contacting the clinic early gives you more time to review appointment availability and plan for the visit. Bring requested identification, health information, and any questions you want to discuss with the clinician. If follow-up is recommended, it is important to complete it so the care team can confirm that the process is complete and address any concerns.

Patients often value the ability to choose among our Rockville, Baltimore, and Hagerstown offices. Multiple locations may provide more scheduling flexibility and help you select an appointment setting that works with your circumstances. Our staff can explain what to expect at the clinic and what preparation may be needed before your visit.

For people who need a more individualized appointment experience, VIP abortion services may offer an enhanced level of privacy and personalized attention. Availability and the details of this service should be confirmed directly with our office, as your care plan depends on your needs and clinical eligibility. Our team can discuss whether this option aligns with the experience you are seeking.

A medication abortion uses prescribed medicines to end an eligible early pregnancy and is different from an in-clinic aspiration procedure. It may be a good fit for some patients who prefer a medication process and can follow all instructions, including recommended follow-up. A clinician will assess your health and gestational timing to determine whether it is an appropriate choice.

The term medical abortion is another name for abortion care provided with medication in early pregnancy. It is not the same as emergency contraception, and it should be obtained through a qualified healthcare provider who can evaluate eligibility and provide follow-up guidance. Potomac Family Planning gives patients factual information so they can consent to care with confidence.

If timing is urgent, ask our staff whether expedited abortion services may be available for your circumstances. Faster scheduling options can depend on clinical needs, appointment capacity, and the type of care requested, so availability cannot be assumed. Calling as soon as possible allows the team to review your request and explain next steps.
